In the Komi National Library within the period from 1st to 30th of April in the cycle of “The Chronicle of the Russian Glory” the complex illustrative book exhibition titled “The Battle of the Ice. The Great victory of Alexander Nevsky” will be exposed. In 1995 in our country the State Duma passed a law “On the Days of the Military Glory in Russia”. These days are the dates of glorious victories, that have played a great role in Russian history. One of these dates is 18th of April. It is the day when in 1242 year a famous battle of the prince Alexander Nevsky happened. It is known nowadays as the Battle of the Ice. The prince Alexander Nevsky is a commander and diplomat, a protector of Russian land, zealous keeper of the Orthodox faith. His name will remain in the human memory forever. Victory over the German army saved the Russian people from the German conquest and enslavement and was of great political and military-strategic importance. The exhibition presents the publications due to which you can make a fascinating journey to the past of our motherland, get acquainted with the historical course of the battle. You will find out that a lot of Russian poets and writers devoted their works to the general Russian commander and wise statesman Alexander Jaroslavovich Nevsky. According to the words of Mikhail Lomonosov he was “the Rus’ defender”, “who tamed the barbarism on the East and deposed jealousy on the West”.
